One of the main options House Republicans are considering as an “ask” for a one-year increase in the debt ceiling is a repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s “risk corridors,” which Republicans have recently begun arguing is a “bailout” for insurance companies.
It is a bailout for the insurance companies. If an insurance company has a loss, they will be compensated for that loss by the federal government.
The national debt is over $17 trillion dollars right now. The national debt is the accumulation over time of federal government deficits. So the GOP is going to negotiate over increasing the national debt by…increasing the national debt.
