As The American Dream’s Michael Snyder explains, the Chinese are on a real estate buying spree all over America. In fact, in some cases large chunks of land are actually being given to them. Yes, you read that correctly. China is on the way to becoming the dominant land owner in the entire country, and that is starting to alarm a lot of people. Do we really want a foreign superpower to physically own so much of our territory?
And it’s even hitting close to where I am here in the sticks:
That is why what is going on in places such as Thomasville, Alabama is so alarming. Small communities such as Thomasville are so starved for jobs that they are willing to give land away for free to Chinese companies in order to entice them to build factories…
Gov. Robert Bentley said Friday that he will announce an economic development project in Thomasville, Ala., Monday morning.
That project is likely a copper tube plant to be built by Golden Dragon Precise Copper Tube Group. A legal notice published Thursday indicates that the city of Thomasville and others intend to give land and other incentives to GD Copper USA, which state corporation records identify as a Florida-based subsidiary of Golden Dragon.
And in this particular case, we are not just talking about a small plot of land. We are talking about a 40 acre chunk of land worth 1.5 million dollars…
The legal notice indicated the city plans to give Golden Dragon a 40-acre site. Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day has said that land is in a city industrial park south of Thomasville High School. It includes a $1.5 million, 50,000-square-foot building that the city constructed in 2009 to attract businesses.
In the old days, such actions by a state governor would be called ‘treason’. Today it’s called ‘good business’ or ‘free trade’. And it’s destroying American jobs.
But that might not be the biggest problem. Chinese companies aren’t the only ones buying up property; Chinese citizens are too:
“We are seeing a lot of Asians who are buying as an investment, but their kids are going to school here, so kids live in the home. They are looking at it more as an investment in education,” said Emile Haddad, CEO of Fivepoint Communities, developer of the Great Park Neighborhood.
That is Brian Yang’s plan. Speaking from his home in China, Yang said he purchased a home in Irvine this year, but he will wait five years, until his daughter turns 10, before moving his family to the U.S. He has several reasons for taking the leap.
“Education in America is very good and world class, so the first one is for education, and I think the second one is for the property appreciation,” explained Yang.
Some are buying multiple homes as investments, while others are moving their families to the U.S., intending to stay at least until their children graduate from college.
Question #1: Why are these Chinese able to move to the U.S. without any kind of hassle? Just because their kid is in college, it doesn’t mean that mama and papa and granny should be allowed to move here. And how does a Chinese national get his 10 year old daughter into the U.S. school system and move here?
Question #2: Where did this guy get the idea that education in America is very good and world class? That’s a knee slapper, Yang. Most American kids are flaming idiots who spend their days staring at the screens of their iPhones, and they are being dumbed down even more by our educational system.
Question #3: Why is our federal government allowing this invasion by the Chinese? And it is an invasion. In 2012, The Daily Mail reported that many Chinese students studying here are actually spies for the Chinese government:
American universities have become infected with foreign spies posing as humble students and researchers, who are working to steal government secrets and new technologies to take back to their own countries.
Attempts by China and other East Asian countries to use academic channels to get their hands on classified information or corporate secrets rose eight-fold between 2009 and 2010, alone, Bloomberg reports.
‘We have intelligence and cases indicating that U.S. universities are indeed a target of foreign intelligence services,’ Frank Figliuzzi, the assistant director for counterintelligence for the FBI, told Bloomberg.
However, on the academic spying front, China seems to be the biggest player of them all.
China employs up to 3,000 shell companies that it uses to try to acquire us technology secrets, Bloomberg reports.
It also has an army of student spies. Some of them are merely students who are coerced into spying. Others are plants posing as students — trained foreign operatives with ulterior motives.
Professor Daniel J. Scheeres, who studies aerospace engineering, took on a student named Yu Xiaohong to study with him at the University of Michigan.
Scheeres, who studies the movement and control of spacecraft and objects in space, told Bloomberg Xiaohong listed a Chinese civilian university as her research background.
He never suspected she had ties to the Chinese military. However, on her American university documents, she listed her home as the Academy of Equipment Command & Technology — a college for young Chinese military officers and cadets.
She had also written a lengthy article on upgrading the accuracy of Chinese anti-satellite weapons.
As Yu pressured him to reveal secrets about his research, Scheeres soon realized that her interests who not merely of a civilian nature.
‘It was pretty clear to me that the stuff she was interested in probably had some military satellite-orbit applications,’ he told Bloomberg.
Foreign intelligence services, especially the ones in China, are also looking to exploit American study-abroad programs as an opportunity to find and turn American students.
Chinese homebuyers and Chinese businesses are starting to flood into the Motor City, and the governor of Michigan is greatly encouraging this. In fact, he has formally asked the Obama administration for 50,000 special federal immigration visas to encourage even more immigration from China and elsewhere.
And they aren’t just interested in Detroit. As I have written about previously, one Chinese company known as “Sino-Michigan Properties LLC” actually had plans to buy 200 acres of land near the little town of Milan, Michigan and turn it into a “China City” with artificial lakes, a Chinese cultural center and hundreds of housing units for Chinese citizens. For much more on how Chinese buyers are gobbling up real estate all over the nation, please see my previous article entitled “The Chinese Are Acquiring Large Chunks Of Land In Communities All Over America“.
On the positive side, it’s gonna be great for those of us who like Chinese food and fireworks. Dong ma?
